Brandenburg University of Technology

The Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) is the youngest technical University of Germany. Founded in 1991 it stands for new concepts in education and research. There is a combined faculty for civil and structural engineers, architects and urban planners with a focus on historical aspects in teaching students. The Department of History of Architecture and Art combines the Chair of Construction History and Structural Preservation, the Chair of History of Architecture, the Chair of Art History, and the Chair of Architectural Conservation.

Since 2007 the department takes overall charge of a Graduate school Cultural and technical values of historical buildings. Furthermore there are two interesting specific historically orientated Master programmes: The study course Building and Conservation teaches specific skills for dealing with historical buildings. The course World Heritage Studies – under patronage of the UNESCO – educates specialists for the development and maintenance of World Heritage Sites.
